Thanks for making the 2014 Brentwood Grand Prix an awesome day for all!
A little rain never stopped tough bike racers from giving it their all and putting on a great show for the spectators! The winners displayed some awesome panache, from James Cowan’s (Michelob Ultra LaGrange) tight sprint win to start the day, to Cullen Easter’s (Ritte) Cancellara-style solo win to the great arm-raising sprints of Kendall Ryan (Team TIBCO) and Rahsaan Bahati (Bahati Foundation) to take the Women’s & Men’s Pro Races, it was bike racing at its best.
The Video Competition is going on now at the Brentwood Grand Prix Facebook page <here>, so load up your videos or go watch some of the great ones being made and vote for your favorites! The rules are here: www.bgp14.com/video
We also want to thank the Santa Monica Spoke Chapter of the LA County Bicycle Coalition for managing the Expo Ride which was a great first time event and featured Olympian Nelson Vails as a co-leader.
The skin cancer screenings were a big success and thanks to all our volunteer dermatologists and especially sponsor Joe Eby, MD who helped coordinate and make it work along with Lauren Leiman from the Melanoma Research Alliance. Learn more about MRA <here> and about the American Academy of Dermatology’s SPOT Me program <here>.
Finally, we are still working to raise funds for our charities the Melanoma Research Alliance and LA County Bicycle Coalition, so please (1) make a donation today at http://bit.ly/ExpoFund
and (2) pass on the link to at least a few other people today. Every bit helps. If you make a donation you will get a free wristband to help support the charity of your choice.
Thanks again to all our sponsors and fans for making a great day and we look forward to a great—and dry— race in 2015!
Velo Club La Grange
Stu's Story & Free Skin Cancer Screenings
Stuart Press is a Cat. 1 racer and former Race Director for Velo Club LaGrange, and was diagnosed with a very unusual and potentially terminal case of brain cancer in early 2014. Like they way he races, Stu attacked the cancer with everything he has. With the help of a recently developed melanoma therapy, and genomic testing, Stu has been able to get the upper hand in his cancer battle. As a way to give back and to show support for Stu’s efforts, Velo Club La Grange has partnered with the Melanoma Research Alliance to fight skin cancer through the Brentwood Grand Prix and (1) offered free skin cancer screenings at the Expo Area in conjunction with the American Academy of Dermatology using its SPOT Me screening protocol, and (2) is still raising money for MRA, including through the Expo Ride.
